The P2 Masonic Lodge was declared illegal by State Law in January 1982: under the leadership of Licio Gelli, it had woven a dark and powerful network, with the aim of conquering strategic mechanisms of national power and directing the country towards a more authoritarian form of governance. Pier Francesco Pingitore, the founder of the highly successful and long-running satirical Bagaglino theatrical company, here takes a look at the P2 scandal. It doesn’t require much insight to understand who inspired the main characters: Licio Belli, Prime Minister Forlotti (a combination of Forlani and Andreotti, the two most important Christian Democrat politicians at the time), a shady banker named Salvi in place of Roberto Calvi. The light-hearted tone of the film is tinged with a bitter aftertaste, as we are accompanied into the sick heart of a nation, with the awareness than not even the loudest laughs will be enough for redemption. Oreste Lionello, perfect in the unpleasant role of the venerable Licio, stands out from the close-knit and raucous cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
