In describing the main characters of the film, Fran\u00e7ois Truffaut wrote: &#8220;They approach freedom, as Becker approaches poetry&#8221;. But his poetry is terse, devoid of all frills, distant from the narrative devices of typical escape cinema. Becker treats fiction from the perspective of a documentarian, looking for deep authenticity. He explores the dynamics of a small group of people, and in so doing reaches the height of a great humanistic work. With a rigour and truth that make <em>Il Buco<\/em> a founding moment in modern cinema. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on a novel by Jos\u00e9 Giovanni, itself based on real-life facts. Five convicts plan their getaway and start digging.
