A dogged thriller set between France and the USA, the two homelands of the detective film<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jean Gabin’s third (and last) outing as the celebrated inspector created by Georges Simenon. Three films may not seem all that many, but it was more than enough to ensure that Gabin’s Maigret would become one of the interpretations of the famous inspector to remain firmly imprinted in audience memory, with his respectable face that cannot hide a certain peasant coarseness. One of the most interesting aspects of this fantastic thriller is the meeting of France and the United States, the two homelands of the detective film, with all their differences and affinities, which come to the fore as the story unfolds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paris. A car speeds past, a stranger is shot dead. Shortly afterwards, a second car collects the body. For Inspector Maigret, the investigation will become increasingly complicated.
