Lazzarella<\/em> was inspired by the Neapolitan song of the same name, written by Riccardo Pazzaglia and Domenico Modugno. The song, first performed by Aurelio Ferro and later by Modugno himself, was a huge hit in Italy and abroad. In France, it was a chart-topper for Dalida. The film, expertly directed by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, features great performances from the suave Alessandra Panaro (who had recently been in the successful Poveri ma belli<\/em>), Mario Girotti (who later achieved fame as Terence Hill), as well as Modugno. It brings the story of the song to the screen with freshness and authenticity, and was a box office hit.
