A very impressive debut from a very young Claudia Mori
Renato Rascel is a small man who finds himself living through historical events much bigger than he is. Namely, the history of Italy, which he would prefer to avoid but instead it keeps coming back to upset his life and ruin his dreams, both during and after the Fascist period. Behind the seemingly innocent and delicate nature of its protagonist, there hides a satirical look at power, making Il corazziere a film that not only remains funny but also biting (in fact, the film was heavily censored at the time of its release). Rascel gets to again sing his famous song Il piccolo corazziere on screen, which for more than ten years has been well-known to Italians ears. Claudia Mori, only 16 at the time, makes a very impressive debut appearance.
Urbano Marangoni has only one wish in life: to wear the uniform of a corazziere (Presidential Guard), like his father. There’s just one problem: he isn’t tall or robust enough. From the year 1935 onwards, he gets unwittingly involved in various mishaps, first in Fascist Italy, then in the post-war Republic. He finally gets to wear his beloved uniform when he is hired to appear in an advertisement for a cheese company.
