Looking back at popular Italian cinema, the director who tried the hardest to untangle the complex relationship between Italians and sex is clearly Pasquale Festa Campanile. Without considering the obvious commercial attraction of exploring such themes, his films wallow in the grotesque and are soaked in bawdiness for the purposes of pure entertainment. Yet, at the same time, they reflect society in a (slightly) distorting mirror. The casting of Flavio Bucci in the lead role of a Neapolitan womaniser was a big risk, but it turned out to be the perfect choice.
Gennarino, a father of nine children, doesn’t want to find a job. He much prefers to sleep with his female neighbours, who are attracted to his reputation as a great lover. His wife, Agatina, on the other hand, works herself to the bone. She decides to exploit her husband’s only talent by organising paid sexual encounters with him, making money behind his back.
