Synopsis

Based on a hugely successful song, a fresh and authentic comedy, a perfect example of popular cinema at its very best

Lazzarella was inspired by the Neapolitan song of the same name, written by Riccardo Pazzaglia and Domenico Modugno. The song, first performed by Aurelio Ferro and later by Modugno himself, was a huge hit in Italy and abroad. In France, it was a chart-topper for Dalida. The film, expertly directed by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, features great performances from the suave Alessandra Panaro (who had recently been in the successful Poveri ma belli), Mario Girotti (who later achieved fame as Terence Hill), as well as Modugno. It brings the story of the song to the screen with freshness and authenticity, and was a box office hit. Popular cinema at its very best.

Luciano, a university student from a modest background, and Sandra, a rich schoolgirl, are in love. They run into problems however, when her family’s financial situation changes. Sandra’s parents want her to marry a rich man, but love wins out in the end.
