Synopsis

A fantastic chance to relive all the artistic greatness of Eduardo De Filippo, in his big screen adaptation of one of his comic plays

All the liveliness, cynicism, subtlety and tenderness of the master of Neapolitan theatre

Sogno di una notte di mezza sbornia is the cinematic adaptation of a comic play brought to the stage twenty years earlier by Eduardo De Filippo, who here both directs and stars. The film is a faithful adaptation, and features all the liveliness, thoughtfulness, tenderness and cynicism that De Filippo originally portraying in his character, whose dream of escaping an unhappy life ends up in vain. Although deeply rooted in a Neapolitan context, this comedy, as in all De Filippo’s work, opens onto a universal dimension of the human condition with subtlety and refined sensitivity. The performances are masterful, whether from an explosive Eduardo grappling with the spectre of impending death, or from the family members (Pupella Maggio, Pietro De Vico, Graziella Marina) caught up in the whirlwind of euphoria following his sudden windfall.
