But more than anything else, in this film the pulsating heart and vocal cords of the city belong to Maria Paris, one of the queens of Neapolitan song, who had won the previous year’s Neapolitan Song Contest, a then very influential competition. She only featured in a few films, and this was by far her greatest role.
Carlo is a mechanic who loves Maria. However, she attracts the attention of her boyfriend’s employer. Eventually, and ill-advisedly, she ends up getting engaged to him. But the scoundrel already has another woman, with whom he also has a son.
