Synopsis

A popular melodrama strongly rooted in the purest Neapolitan musical tradition

Starring the excellent Maria Paris, one of the queens of Neapolitan song

As stated in the song of the same name, which was a big hit a few years earlier for Claudio Villa: the road may be long, but if destiny exists then the person you love will end up in your arms. The film has the same melancholic and heartfelt tone. No surprise then that this popular melodrama is strongly rooted in Naples, where the contrasting fortunes of romance almost always end up with an overwhelming desire to sing. The man behind the camera is Neapolitan director Armando Fizzarrotti. On an interesting, and perhaps not coincidental note: his son, director Ettore Maria Fizzarrotti, will become the main promoter of the Italian musicarello genre, which naturally deals with precisely this combination of love and melody. But more than anything else, in this film the pulsating heart and vocal cords of the city belong to Maria Paris, one of the queens of Neapolitan song, who had won the previous year’s Neapolitan Song Contest, a then very influential competition. She only featured in a few films, and this was by far her greatest role.

Carlo is a mechanic who loves Maria. However, she attracts the attention of her boyfriend’s employer. Eventually, and ill-advisedly, she ends up getting engaged to him. But the scoundrel already has another woman, with whom he also has a son. Carlo and Maria, after clearing up the misunderstanding, give in to the evidence: they never stopped loving each other and are made for one another.
