Synopsis

Cara sposa is a comedy occasionally tinged by darker tones. It depicts domestic violence, prison, a troubled love affair, the manipulation of children as a means to an end, a dark wintertime Milan, and a problematic social environment. And yet, as the film’s poster suggests, there is also room for slapstick comedy. The film deftly manages to handle the seemingly irreconcilable differences in tone, often leaving the audience suspended between bitterness and cheeky laughs. Johnny Dorelli is versatile and charismatic, sporting stubble in contrast with his suave, clean-cut singer image. This is the most complex role of his career, and he plays the part with aplomb.

Alfredo is released from prison and goes back to his wife Adelina. In the meantime, however, she has made a new life for herself. Her new boyfriend is a taxi driver, who although not particularly affectionate is at least there for her. Alfredo has trouble accepting this, and does his best to win over his son Pasqualino. But Adelina has no intention of changing her mind…
