The film that gave rise to the Italian sex-thriller
A tense and dizzying work that became an international hit
A very influential film, as Orgasmo gave rise to the Italian sex-thriller genre that was destined to proliferate on the international stage. Umberto Lenzi’s film is tense, claustrophobic, anarchist and experimental. Sex becomes an unconventional weapon, accompanied by an array of drugs and strong liquor. The deviant plan hatched by the intruders also contains strong elements of class struggle and the anger of the disenchanted youth against the upper classes who live in luxury and wallow in boredom: but in the end everyone is destined to lose. The skilful direction is a highly potent mix of alienating, dizzying and delirious visuals. Orgasmo was a hit in Italy and the USA, as well as many other countries around the world.
A very wealthy American widow hosts a vagabond and his half-sister in her villa outside of Rome. The two initiate a plan based on sex and drugs to induce the woman to madness and suicide. They are in league with a lawyer who aims to get his hands on the inheritance.
