Synopsis

A fast-paced legal thriller, where truth and lies overlap

Duccio Tessari directs the sombre and labyrinthine plot with virtuosity

More than just a whodunit, it is also a fast-paced legal thriller supported by a particularly solid screenplay. Duccio Tessari does a fantastic job managing the complicated material, with its overlapping contradictory points-of-view, and takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of truth and lies. Present and past intertwine in a complex maze of cross-references, flashbacks and temporal overlapping. Tessari’s direction enriches this complex plot through creative shot choices, framing that deforms perspective, and hallucinatory camera movement. A sombre social scenario emerges, from which it is difficult to imagine who will save themselves.

Alessandro is sent to jail after being found guilty of stabbing Françoise to death. However, he is exonerated after two more very similar murders are committed while he is imprisoned. They have been committed by Françoise’s ex-fiancé so that he can personally take revenge on Alessandro, who really is guilty.
